5 Crucial Ways To Stay Organized As A Stay At Home Mom
Being a stay-at-home mom can be very overwhelming, especially during the first few weeks or months. Here are 5 crucial ways to stay organized as a stay-at-home mom. These can help you get organized and stay organized!
5 Crucial Ways To Stay Organized As A Stay At Home Mom
Create A Morning Routine That’s Realistic
This can pretty much make or break your organization as a stay-at-home mom. When you create a morning routine your day will go so much smoother and your children will also thrive with a routine. You have to be realistic though. You can’t say “Oh, I will wake up at 5 am before my kids and do a workout, drink some coffee, and clean the house” just because you saw someone on Instagram do the same.
You need to be realistic about a morning routine that you can stick with and one that makes you happy and relaxed! You shouldn’t be struggling and suffering as soon as you wake up. That’s what the kids are for! Haha! Kidding! You will be in a much better mood if you create and follow a morning routine. It will put your mind at ease and give you a few minutes to yourself (because it can be hard to find the time later on in the day!)
I have a few routines I have made for my schedule and my favorite one is Daily Schedule For A Stay At Home Mom To Stay Motivated
Declutter Your Home On A Regular Basis
What’s another crucial way to stay organized as a stay-at-home mom? Decluttering! Clutter can be so overwhelming and make you feel like your house is never clean. You should try to de-clutter your home at least every 2-3 months. You could go through old toys, old clothes, etc. There are always things that could be sold, put in storage, or donated.
Once you declutter your house it will be much easier to keep it clean and will be less overwhelming for you during the day.
Make To-Do Lists For Everything
You might think making a list is silly, but I promise you, It’s not! My mom-brain can forget something within 2 minutes if I don’t write it down somewhere! I make to-do lists for almost everything. I have grocery lists, cleaning lists, things to buy lists, things-to-do lists, family events lists, etc. You get the idea!
A great tip is to use your iPhone for your lists so it can keep you updated throughout the day and give you reminders when needed. I use my calendar to put in any appointments and set reminders to remind me a few days before in case I have completely forgotten (it’s happened!) I also use the notes and lists apps to write down lists of daily things I need to get done. It makes it super easy to keep up with.
Make A Rotating Cleaning Schedule
One thing that can really be overwhelming while being a stay-at-home mom is dealing with the constant cleaning. It’s literally all day long. No matter how many times I clean during the day you can guarantee my house is destroyed again by bedtime thanks to my wild 3-year-old who has way too many toys. After weeks of feeling totally overwhelmed and not accomplishing much at all, I realized I needed to just let it go. I started making a cleaning schedule that rotates each day/week.
I still do daily tasks like picking up toys, vacuuming, sweeping, etc. But, the bigger tasks I try to stretch out over time. I have different days for different areas to clean. One day I will make it my mission to deep clean the bathrooms, showers, etc. The next day I will focus on laundry and folding and putting it away. The next day I will deep clean the kitchen, etc.
Once you realize your house does not need to be perfect every day, a whole new world opens up! I don’t stress about the house anymore because we live in it. We are home a lot now! This is normal for your house to look “lived in”. Make a rotating cleaning schedule and you can feel on top of your cleaning without spending all day scrubbing the floors!
Prepare The Night Before For Next Day
The most crucial tip on how to stay organized as a stay-at-home mom is to prepare the night before for the next day. I did this before I was a stay-at-home mom out of necessity. I was working full-time outside of the home and my son was in daycare which required us to get up extremely early and packing all of the things he needed for daycare.
I would pack all of his stuff the night before, pick out outfits, lay out clothes and shoes, etc. I had everything I needed already set up for myself and it was so much less stress in the mornings. Now, I have implemented that same technique even though I am staying at home now.
I usually pick up the living room, clean the kitchen a little, and set up my stuff for breakfast tomorrow. I make sure dishes are clean. Coffee is ready to go. Sometimes I even pre-make breakfast like overnight oats, etc. to make my morning a little easier.
You should try preparing for the next day the night before to ease some of the stress off of you that comes in the early morning hours. It doesn’t even have to be a lot. I know I feel so much more at ease when I see that the counters are wiped clean or my coffee is ready to be made as soon as I push a button. It’s the little things that can make your life easier, especially when you have small children.
